The Obligatory New Year’s Resolutions
Welcome to 2025. With the new year comes resolutions. So this is your obligatory New Year’s resolution newsletter. Here is what I have for personal resolutions and my wishes and desires for golf in general.
First, I will be working to get physically stronger. 3 to 4 days in the gym lifting in order to increase my physical strength. This isn’t rocket science. My plan is a very simple, basic weightlifting regimen. Traditional weightlifting still produces the best results. Nothing exotic or golf specific.
Second, increase my clubhead speed. More clubhead speed equals more distance. Getting stronger is a big component to this end. However, in addition to the weight training, I will be doing various speed training in order to increase my clubhead speed. This includes SuperSpeed, jumping and other forms of speed training.
Third, I will be getting fit for new clubs in the spring. It’s been a while since I purchased new clubs, and I have never had a full set fitting before. I have done fittings for drivers but not a full set. This is something I am extremely excited about.
Fourth, I want an agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV golf. What that agreement is and how it takes shape I couldn’t tell you, but I’m reasonably confident in agreement between the two organizations will be reached.
Fifth, if an agreement is reached between the PGA Tour and LIV golf, I hope the two organizations remain separate tours with no or limited crossover. As someone who does not like LIV golf, this may sound pretty strange, but I have actually given this some thought. If the two organizations can find a way to coexist, the competition will be ultimately good for professional golf. The best players on the planet don’t need to be competing against each other on a regular basis, but they do need to be competing against each other during the majors. This is the way it was when I was growing up when the best players were split between the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It creates rivalries which drive sports. Think Ryder Cup in golf.
Sixth, both Jay Monahan and Greg Norman disappear from professional golf. Neither are good for the game of golf. Both have allowed their egos to prevent an amicable resolution to be reached.
Seventh, Scottie Scheffler dominates the PGA Tour and the Majors in 2025. There isn’t a better player on the planet right now than Scottie. He plays the game the way it should be played. There’s no flash, there’s no sizzle, there’s no gambler mentality. There’s just great, solid golf. If you want to learn how to play the game properly just watch Scottie play.
So those are some of my resolutions and predictions for 2025. I’m sure some of you have goals and wishes for golf this coming year. Whatever they are, I’ll add a final prediction; if you keep working on whatever golf reasonable golf goal you have for yourself, you will be successful.
